Student Wellbeing
Developing the Whole Person
The social, emotional and physical wellbeing of our students is pivotal to the continued development of the whole person.
Student Wellbeing
At St Patrick’s, we believe that nurturing the wellbeing of our students is at the heart of everything we do. We understand that a student’s social, emotional, moral, spiritual and physical wellbeing is vital to their success—not just at school, but throughout their lives.
We are committed to creating a culture of positivity, encouragement and mutual respect that reflects our school vision:
With Christ before us;
Aspiring to reach our full potential.
With Christ beside us;
Encouraging a community of respect.
With Christ behind us;
Celebrating our achievements.
We aim to:
- Foster a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment for every student
- Promote positive relationships between students, staff and families
- Support all staff in taking shared responsibility for student wellbeing
- Equip students with skills in resilience, responsibility and emotional intelligence
- Develop core social and emotional competencies including self-awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making
By prioritising wellbeing, we empower our students to become confident, compassionate and capable individuals, ready to thrive in all aspects of their lives.
At St Patrick’s, we offer a range of targeted social emotional learning and wellbeing programs to support the diverse needs of our students. These initiatives complement our whole-school approach to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships
The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) and the Building Respectful Relationships (BRR) learning materials are designed for primary school teachers to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationship skills.
Peaceful Kids
‘Peaceful Kids’ is a mindfulness and positive psychology-based program designed to reduce anxiety and stress, while building resilience in children. Delivered in small groups over eight weeks, the program is led by a trained facilitator and offered on a needs basis.
DS Psychology
St Patrick’s partners with DS Psychology Group, who support the wellbeing of students across our local school community. A qualified clinician from DS Psychology Group is available onsite to work with primary school-aged children, providing professional support for a range of concerns, including:
- School refusal
- ADHD and autism
- Friendship difficulties and bullying
- Family conflict, separation and divorce
- Low self-esteem
- Anxiety and mood-related issues
This valuable service ensures students can access timely and professional care within the familiar setting of their school, helping them to feel supported and understood.
Buddy System
Our Buddy System is part of the Better Buddies program developed by the Alannah and Madeline Foundation. It helps Prep students feel safe and connected by pairing them with older student mentors. Fortnightly activities encourage friendships and help build a strong sense of belonging.
Lunchtime Clubs
For students who enjoy quiet indoor options during lunch, our library hosts a variety of clubs including Chess Club, Drawing Club, Lego Club, Games Club and Knitting Club. These clubs are reviewed regularly by our student leadership team to ensure they reflect student interests.
It’s not the curriculum that we offer that sets us apart...
....it’s the manner in which it’s delivered. Our teachers actively and passionately explore the possibilities of making their teaching practice more innovative, engaging and fun at every turn. This is the single ingredient that drives the most growth in our students.
